This is why we came home...

After 10 days at home in Christchurch, we headed South to the paradise that is Wanaka.
Lake Wanaka
The mouth of the Matukituki river.

Wanaka is a haven for outdoors freaks, so we feel right at home here. We've had one day climbing at Hospital Flat - despite the negative temperatures, the sunshine meant our fingers stayed warm enough. After pulling on plastic in the gym, it was great to touch some real rock again.

Around Lake Wanaka there are some amazing walking and biking routes, as well as some stellar fishing spots that got Simon so excited he went and purchased a rod. Mmm salmon for dinner...

Yesterday we hit the slopes at Treble Cone with my brother Nick, and his mate Jumbo. We skied the piste for a while, then hiked up a few ridges to find some untracked stuff. Being here has made us pretty excited about the possibility of backcountry touring in New Zealand. All day we skied like we never left France, but the harsh reality of our lack of skiing fitness set in this morning as we struggled to move our aching bones out of bed!

The access road to Treble Cone. Driving up, it looked dismal, then the cloud ended right before the carpark. Booya!

So the plan is to try and move to this gorgeous part of NZ around October, to lead a life less ordinary, filled with serious adventure.
